Thermodynamics education for energy transformation: a Stirling Engine experiment

نویسندگان

چکیده

We present a thermodynamics experiment suitable for first year undergraduate students employing Stirling Engines to create demonstration of energy transformation and measure the mechanical efficiency such engines. Using an inexpensive transparent chambered Engine, can connect concepts as theoretical pressure-volume diagram with physical movements engine's pistons resultant useful output work spinning wheel. found majority successfully complete this obtaining results similar when performed by authors. In addition core lesson, incorporates DC circuits, oscilloscopes, data analysis so it be integrated into wider physics course combine teaching multiple subjects.

Performance Evaluation for a 100 W Stirling Engine

A small 100 W displacer-type Stirling engine, Ecoboy-SCM81 has being developed by a committee of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. The engine contains unique features, including an expansion cylinder which is heated by either combustion gas or direct solar energy. Also, a simple cooling system rejects heat from the working gas. A displacer piston has both heating and cooling inner tube...

Dynamics Simulation of Stirling Engine for Solar Energy Based on the Time-Varying Support Stiffness

In order to simulate the Stirling engine more easily, the stiffness and damping ratio of the crankshaft bearing are assumed to be steady-state in the research before, but this assumption is contrary to the real condition. Therefore, in this paper, a time-varying stiffness and damping ratio of the crankshaft bearing simulation method has been proposed. Compared with the simulation results of the...

A Study on Performance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell-Stirling Engine Cycle Combined System- Part I: SOFC Simulation by Programming in Matlab and Modeling in Hysys

In recent years, using new methods in utilization of energy resources has become necessary due to environmental pollution and restriction of energy resources. The hybrid system presented in this article produced power with SOFC and Stirling engine. The purpose is to analyze a 50 kW Solid Oxide Fuel Cell that could produce enough thermal energy for a 10 kW Stirling engine working in the hybrid s...
